Recovery Workshop
We often run workshops with local gyms and training studios to share simple tools and strategies for healthy living. In our Recovery Workshop, we teach how to take advantage of our parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system to help enhance performance and reduce the risks of injury. If you're interesting in hosting us for a workshop for your staff or clients, please contact us. Here's an example of what we cover:
There once were two wood cutters. The first wood cutter works hard all day, never stopping to take a break, never sharpening his axe. As he went on, his blade became duller and duller, which meant he had to work harder and harder, just to get the same result. Over time he became more and more tired, and at the end of the day both he and his axe were worn out and useless.
The second axe cutter was a bit more savvy. Whenever his blade became dull, he stopped to sharpen the axe and recover his body. By the end of the day, both he and his axe were still cutting at the same rate.
Who do you think cut more trees and had a happier day?
By ensuring he and his tools were performing at their best, the second wood cutter was actually able to get more work done, and was better able to provide for his family.
It’s the same in the gym and life. Helping our body recover is just as important as the workouts we do. We must ensure that our body and mind are working well to help prevent injury, burnout and help us get more out of our training.
We can teach you simple acupressure techniques to help stimulate your body to go deeper into an effective recovery state. Think of it as your recovery workout :)
Our goals in the recovery workout are:
- Reduce pain to help us relax
- Relax muscle tension to help with deeper breathing and improved circulation
- Stimulate the body to open up blood flow through the joints, reducing aches and pains, allowing for deeper rest
- Activate digestion to lower stress hormones and allow us to absorb the nutrients we need to rebuild our bodies
See below for some of the acupressure points we use in our Recovery Workshops to help you recover more efficiently. During the workshops, we also help you locate the points and give advice on what would best suit your body. If you’ve already been to one of our workshops, please watch the videos as a little refresher. Also if you’d like us to do one of these workshops at your gym, please contact us.
